The final matches of the inaugural Stellenbosch Primary Schools Knockout Cup take place at Coetzenburg Stadium on Thursday, 21 March.

The tournament, which kicked off in February this year, has given 1 100 children from 18 local primary schools the opportunity to compete for the winning title in the boys under 10, under 12 and under 14 categories, as well as an under 13 girls category.

“The aim of the tournament is to stimulate youth football development within the broader Stellenbosch community and to foster deeper relationships between the University and these communities,” says Anita Nel, CEO of InnovUS, the University’s innovation agency, which is spearheading a Football Development Programme at Stellenbosch University.

Ashley Kotzin from ForwardZone, South Africa's premier football management company, says he is proud to be involved in this initiative which “creates various opportunities for communities and future football stars”.
